Malaria - Fever Wars
Films of Record / BBC2 BBC4 PBS
Filmed across three continents Fever Road is an intimate portrait of life in a Kenyan village during a Malaria outbreak. The film charts the lengths to which the chief will go to protect his people.
The Vaccine Challenge puts the disease into a global perspective, following both scientists and politicians in their fight against the inertia surrounding the crisis.
The 2 x 90 minute films met much acclaim and for the first time the complete lifecycle of the malaria virus was portrayed as a full CGI microscopic sequence. The look for the sequence needed to combine scientific accuracy with gritty and strongly stylised images. The predominant hues of reds and blacks come across strongly in the sequence matching the feel and look of this award winning film. These same colours and style were used in the other graphics in the film along with the title sequence all created at Jellyfish Pictures.
Softimage XSI was used for the CGI technical animation, rendering in Mental Ray and the sequence was composited in After Effects.
