Dragon's Den
Redbee Media / BBC2
Jellyfish Pictures were approached by Joan Hillary at Redbee Media and asked to create a promo for the popular BBC series “Dragons’ Den”. Dragons’ Den is a show where entrepreneurs pitch for investment in the Den from five Dragons, venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.
The first series of Dragons' Den was transmitted on BBC2 in January 2005 and returned in July 2008 for a sixth series.
The promo for the new series needed to reflect the way in which the show has progressed over the years.
In recent series the Dragons have become more and more competitive with one another to win over the entrepreneurs with the best ideas. In this promo The Dragons push and kick aside “oversized” piles of small change which represent the less interesting ideas in a desire to get to the “real money”.
The challenge for the team was to come up with piles of absolutely photo real CGI coins that reacted to the motions and actions of the Dragons as they kicked and pushed aside thin air filmed on set.
This all had to be completed and delivered in just 8 - 9 days.
Jellyfish were on location to supervise the shoot, closely advising the director and gathering measurements and lighting information.
The provided 60fps HD shots were processed and matchmoved, with animation and dynamics of the coins achieved in realflow.
The coins were textured and shaded with highly detailed maps of the required currency, then lit and rendered using gathered HDRI information from the set.
Compositing and final grading of the edit was achieved with Digital Fusion.
